Liquid Adhesives
Liquid Adhesives can be defined as a combination of an adhesive material and a suitable carrier. either an organic solvent or water.
Chemicals other than the solvent can be added to give the adhesive specific performance or processing characteristics. Examples of an additive include resins for increasing tack, plasticisers to soften the final bond, pigments for colour or reinforcement, fire retardants, light stabilizers, flow control agents, preservatives for slowing spoilage from bacteria and fungi.
Bond formation with liquid adhesives requires that the solvent or water be removed before or after the substrates are joined. At least one of the substrates must be permeable to the solvent or water if they are going to be put together while the adhesive is in the wet state. Solvent or water loss may be affected by ambient or heat drying before the substrates are put together. Heating may also be used to accelerate solvent or water loss in a wet bonding process.
